Driver Examination Services Now Available

Ontario’s 56 driver examination centres are operated by Serco DES Inc., a private operator under contract to the Ministry of Transportation. A labour disruption involving United Steelworkers local 9511 (USW) and Serco has ended. Full driver examination services are now available, although there are backlogs at some locations.

The new distracted driving law makes it illegal for drivers to talk, text, type, dial or email using hand-held cell phones and other hand-held communications and entertainment devices. Nine ServiceOntario centres are now accepting applications for this passport alternative, which can be used at Canada-U.S. land and water border crossings.

Those who wish to apply for a licence should visit www.ServiceOntario.ca to book an application appointment. Appointments will be available starting May 19, 2009 with the first batch of licences projected for delivery by June 1, 2009.
