That way, when the recipient downloads your message from his or her ISP's e-mail server, you receive amessage indicating that your e-mail was delivered. In addition, you can request a readreceipt, which notifies you when your message is opened by the recipient.
After you create a new message, completing the To and Subject fields and typing themessage text, on the Options tab, in the Tracking group, click the dialog box launcher:
Select at the top of the message compose pane. Select Show message options. Select Request a read receipt or Request a delivery receipt, or both. To choose how Outlook on the web responds to read receipt requests: Select Settings View all Outlook settings. Select Mail Message handling. Under Read receipts, choose how to respond to requests for read receipts.
- This feature works the same in all modern versions of Microsoft Outlook: 2010, 2013, and 2016. When sending a message, if you want to add a read receipt to the message, select the Options tab, and in the Tracking group, check the Request a Read Receipt check box.
- An Outlook read receipt is a notification feature in outlook that notifies or request a recipient to send a read receipt to the sender. It allows the sender to know if the email sent has been opened by the recipient. If you send an email to someone, the read receipt is a way that Outlook informs you that the person has opened your email.
The Message Options dialog box opens.
- To request a delivery receipt, click the Request a Delivery Receipt for ThisMessage check box to select it.
- To request a read receipt, click the Request a Read Receipt for ThisMessage check box to select it.
Click the Close button and send the message as usual. When the message is delivered and/or read,you'll receive a confirmation e-mail message.
Note: If you've requested a receipt but don't receive one, it doesn't necessarily meanyour message wasn't delivered or read. Some e-mail programs do not send delivery or read receipts.

If you are not using Classic Menu for Office...
In Microsoft Outlook 2010/2013, select New E-mail to create a new message, on the Options tab, in the Tracking group, Request a Read Receipt is placed at the bottom of the right corner. If you want to receive a read receipt from the recipient, just check the checkbox of Request a Read Receipt. If you would not like to, unchecking the checkbox will be OK.
