iCap is authored by The Imaging Source and has been specifically designed for use with Celestron Skyris astronomical CCD cameras. The software ships with all Celestron Skyris astronomical cameras, powered by The Imaging Source. Using iCap, you can do the following:
- Take control over your Canon DSLR. Purpose built for astrophotography. There is no separate download for the Trial, Classic, or Premium Edition.
- Download (32-bit) Download (64-bit) EdgeDetection: Stephen Wong: A simple edge detection plugin using Sobel operator. The plugin will visualize and display the edges of the objects, which helps on achieving precise focus on targets such as moon craters and planets. Download: FlareDetect: Joachim Stehle.
- Set all camera parameters.
- See the live image data stream from the camera.
- Snap singular images from the camera and save them as BMP or JPG files.
- Capture image sequences and save the single images as enumerated BMP or JPG files.
- Capture image sequences and save them as lossless, uncompressed AVI files. These files can be post-processed in other astronomy applications, such as RegiStax.
If you have an image of the surface of a celestial body that you can't see clearly then this application will solve the problem.
The program works both with complete videos in AVI format and with loose images in popular formats like JPG, BMP, TIFF or PNG.
The actions this tool can perform on the images are the following: alignment, optimization, stacking, wavelets and final adjustments.
The stacking option is capable of obtaining a final image of a better quality starting from an average image having various frames. With 'wavelets' you can emphasize the hidden details of the image.
Finally, you can make some final adjustments to the image and save it in the format of your choice.

For stacking software there are two popular choices: RegiStax 6 and AutoStakkert!3 (aka AS!3). The stacking software will discard the low quality frames in your movie file and align the remaining images and more or less take the average of them. In the beginning there was only RegiStax. RegiStax will do both the stacking and processing steps.
